Title: Introduction of the BD FACSymphony™ A3 Cell Analyzer – New flow cytometer at the Department of Immunology

Speaker: Dr. Morten Løbner, High-End Application Scientist

Abstract: Flow cytometry is a powerful method for single-cell analysis, using fluorescently labeled antibodies to detect molecules on or within the cell. Using flow cytometry, different cell type-specific markers can be identified as well as markers for cell maturation, activation, and differentiation.  In recent years, technological improvements and better fluorochromes have made it possible to increase the number of markers used in each sample. With the BD FACSymphony A3, up to 28 different fluorescently labeled molecules can be measured simultaneously making it possible to either make a broad or a deep phenotypical analysis of the sample.

In this talk, the theoretical background of flow cytometry will be covered and the most common types of assays discussed.

Short Bio: Morten received a PhD in Neuro Immunology from the University of Southern Denmark before joining BD biosciences as an application scientist in 2011. As a researcher, his focus was cell-cell interaction, especially antigen presentation, and how flow cytometry could help define novel antigen presenting cells in the CNS. As an application scientist, he daily tries to help flow cytometrists in the Nordics to get the best out of their flow cytometers.
