Protein Science Facility

The protein science core facility has state-of-the-art instruments for cloning, nucleic acid preparation, protein expression and purification, spectroscopic and calorimetric analysis, as well as advanced microscopy.

Expression facilities for both bacterial and mammalian suspension cells.

Advanced chromatography systems including Äkta Pure 25 for low-medium pressure purificiation and Agilent Infinity 1260 II high-performance liquid chromatography system.

Spectroscopy

  • Multimodal microplate reader equipped with injectors
  • Circular dichorism (CD) spectroscopy instrument
  • Stopped-flow kinetics

Molecular binding and calorimetry

  • Monolith NT.LabelFree microscale thermophoresis instrument
  • Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) instrument
  • Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) instrument

X-ray protein crystallography

  • Laboratory equipment for manual growth of protein crystals
  • Data collection at synchrotrons trough international collaborations and EMBL

The MicroTime 200 confocal fluorescence microscope is capable of single-molecule detection.

The microscope is equipped with two picosecond pulsed lasers (520/640 nm) and four SPAD-detectors, that together allow a wide range of experiments and multi-parameter analysis to be performed including:

  • FRET
  • distance distributions
  • fluorescence lifetimes
  • fluorescence lifetime imaging
  • anisotropy measurements
  • fluorescence correlation spectroscopy
  • and much more
