Abstract: The recent resolution revolution in microscopy technologies allows unprecedented insights into the molecular machinery inside living systems. For the first time, imaging technologies have molecular resolving power and sensitivity and can be correlated to cover the whole range from structural detail of single molecules to imaging a whole living organism and with this provide opportunities for research and biomedical insights that have never been greater. However, delivering on this potential requires also development of highly sophisticated image analysis tools and open sharing of tools and image data to allow both reuse and extraction of knowledge, as well as integration with existing molecular data from molecular biology and biochemical technologies (omics). This presentation will give examples at different scales where we have used and further developed advanced microscopy ranging from correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM) and super-resolution microscopy to quantitative livecell imaging including fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) and whole-live-embryo light-sheet microscopy and respective image analysis tools to study individual protein complexes, cellular signaling networks inside cells and aneuploidy causing cell division errors inside developing mammalian embryos.
