Her research focuses on environmental microbiology and plant–microbe interactions in Arctic and sub-Arctic ecosystems. She studies bacterial communities associated with lichens, plants, and Icelandic soils to better understand their roles in nutrient cycling and microbial interactions in nutrient-limited environments. Current projects investigate native Icelandic soil bacteria with plant growth–promoting traits and their potential contributions to vegetation establishment and ecosystem recovery in degraded landscapes.
