Linda finished her M.Sc. degree in medical science from the University of Iceland where she studied Aurora kinase and BRCA2 in breast and prostate cancer under the supervision of prof. Jórunn Eyfjörð. During her Ph.D., studies she worked under supervison of prof. Dan Grandér´s on understanding the role of long noncoding RNAs in cancer and in 2017 she earned her Ph.D. in medical science from Karolinska Institutet. Thereafter, she joined the laboratory of Dr. Palm-Apergi at Karolinska Institutet as a postdoctoral researcher to investigate siRNA derivatives. Currently, Linda is an adjunct professor at the Department of Medicine and a postdoctoral researcher at prof. Stefan Sigurdsson´s lab at the University of Iceland.
Albeit previous conception that most long noncoding RNAs (lncRNA) are inert, their functionality is now being unraveled. My research aims to understand how these noncoding molecules regulate gene expression and protein interactions and how dysregulated lncRNAs contribute to cancer development and progression. Further, I´m interested in understanding how epigenetic silencing is regulated at gene promoters in cancer development.
