BMC bioinformatics hands-on workshop
09:00 til 11:00
Free admission
The BMC Bioinformatics Facility has prepared a set of practical hands-on weekly teaching sessions on a broad variety of bioinformatic tools. We will start next Wednesday, 27th of November from 09:00 to 10:30 in room Lg-229 in Læknagarður and on Teams (Join the meeting now). Please bring your own laptops.
In particular about the structure of our first session, we will have two teaching blocks with two different topics:
(1) introduction to UNIX commands
(2) how to interact with Elja/Mimir, a high-performance computing (HPC) environment
We will introduce a bit of theory in the beginning of each block, then we will have some practical exercises to consolidate how to use the introduced tools. These are hands-on sessions, therefore, please bring your laptop. These tools we will be introducing on this first session may be perceived as difficult, out of context and obscure to early beginners. However, they are powerful and broadly used tools to handle the very basic everyday operations of computational analyses. As a personal story, it was really difficult for me to learn these tools (UNIX commands), I thought they were somehow too abstract, and yet today I use them every day and they have been instrumental in my research career---I could have not done much without them.

If you intend to attend, please add your name here so we have an estimate of how many people will be attending.
Looking forward to seeing you next Wednesday.
