Haraldur Halldórsson
Project Manager at Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, School of Health Sciences, University of Iceland
Haraldur obtained a BSc degree in biology from the University of Iceland in 1972 and a DPhil degree in biochemistry from the University of Sussex in 1979, where he studied the involvement of NAD metabolism in thecellular response to DNA damage. After obtaining a long term EMBO grant he went to the University of Tromsö to work on ADP-Ribosylation in the slime mold Physarum Polycephalum.Since returning home in 1983 he has been working with Guðmundur Þorgeirsson on various aspects of endothelial cell biology.
Research: The research has focused on the signaling prosesses employed by endothelial cells to mediate responses to compounds such as thrombin and histamine. Lately the main interest has been the involvement of AMP acti-vated protein kinase in these responses and in vascular health in general.
