Liquid handling robot
Freedom EVO 150 with integrated Tecan Resolvex A200 is located at the laboratories of the core facility of mass spectrometry analysis at the School for Health Sciences UI (i.e. MassHEI) at Sturlugata. The liquid handling robot enables reliable and consistent processing for front-end-mass spectrometry sample preparation, as well as processing of large number of cells or tissue samples. With Freedom EVO dissolution and aliquoting are easily automated and implementation of methods is conducted with an intuitive drag-and drop graphical user interface. The open architecture of the robot allows for addition of hardware and software elements as needed for expanded functionality.
Synapt mass spectrometer & EFNGREIN infrastructure road map
Infrastructure for chemical analysis is paramount for the basic and applied molecular sciences. EFNGREIN aims to advance, maintain, and enable access to infrastructure that is required to carry out chemical analysis on a broad scope of molecules. In 2021-2021 funding for the following equipment was secured for molecular and materials purification and analysis: UPLC-QTOF mass spectrometer, a UPLC/UV-VIS/RI system, a benchtop 50 Mhz NMR spectrometer, a UV-VIS spectrophotometer, a thermogravimetric analyzer, a IR spectrometer, a realtime IR spectrometer and a HPLC-MALS/RF system.
Upgrade of the Zeiss fluorescence microscope

Zeiss Model Axio Imager M1 is a light/fluorescence (UV) microscope located at the Department of Immunology, Landspitali – The National University Hospital of Iceland. The microscope was recently upgraded, in terms of a new software, ZEN (ZEISS Efficient Navigation) 2.5 pro, motorized stage and a new camera, Camera Axiocam. The microscope can now acquire Z Stack images, perform automatic measurement procedures, and create high-resolution overview image from many individual images due to motorized focus drive, where the images are put together with pixel precision.
The image working station

The image analysis workstation consists of a powerful computer (512GB RAM and nVidia Quadro A6000 48GB video card) with Wacom Cintiq Pro 24 interactive touch screen. This system can cope with large image files and 3D image restructure from confocal and electron microscope images. The following image analysis software is installed: Image J/FUJI, Neurolucida (access shared with RTK lab in Cambridge), Olympus CellSens Dimension image analysis software, Cell Profiler and ICY. In addition, there is access to Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator for making final figures for publication. Access to the image analysis workstation is open to all in the BMC and has endless opportunities for image analysis. Soon we will add other image analysis software. In the future, we hope to install an AI image analysis software, but we are in the process of trialing these.
